Diversity Statement

The Office of Civil Rights ("S/OCR") has a commitment to include and to fully utilize the talents and experiences of people with diverse backgrounds. Diversity includes a broad range of characteristics and experiences, such as race, gender, national origin, age, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities, and thought, that makes all individuals unique.

A diverse workplace has a positive impact on the morale, productivity, and success of its employees. Diversity stimulates creativity that attracts and nurtures talented professionals.

Diversity maximizes S/OCR's mission to ensure equal opportunity practices and to raise diversity awareness within the Department. This mission, geared towards the development of a healthy and productive workforce, is based on four pillars: education, diversity advancement, mediation, and conflict management and resolution.

Specifically, these pillars support the goal of improving diversity in the Department through: (1) diversity training and education; (2) monitoring and assessing diversity advancement efforts; (3) participating in activities that promote diversity; (4) developing partnerships with diversity-oriented employee groups; and (5) offering EEO Counseling and Alternative Dispute Resolution in multiple languages.

S/OCR is committed to the Department's efforts of attracting and promoting a diverse workforce that reflects the talent of our Nation.
